Buying a car is among the biggest investments anyone can make. The buying process is usually thorough and the decision process is very thoughtful. However, when it comes to maintenance and car inspection, accuracy and care are not always the same, which can bring unpleasant surprises.

Read on and find out everything you need to know about your vehicle’s periodic inspection.

Why should you do the periodic car inspection?

Legal obligation is the most obvious reason to inspect your vehicle. But the most important reason is security.

The main purpose of the car inspection is to check the safety conditions of the vehicles to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.

This process is mandatory for motor vehicles (and their trailers) and aims to confirm the good operating and safety conditions according to the original characteristics and present in the Road Code.

What should you check in your car before the inspection?

According to the Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT) “there is a set of simple checks that can be carried out regularly in particular before taking it to an inspection center.”

However, in an Inspection Center the checklist is much more elaborate. In addition to a check of the conditions for the maintenance of the body work and the interior of the vehicle, the verification of possible fluid loss, the existence of a pre-signalling triangle and the retroreflector vest, the technician of the car inspection center can also check:

● Lighting and visibility system;
● Suspension system;
● Braking system;
● Direction alignment;
● CO2 emission: exhaust system;
● Checking the general condition of the vehicle;

When should you inspect your vehicle?

The frequency of the car inspection depends on the type of vehicle and varies over the years after the first registration.

To ensure that your vehicle does not fail inspection, it is important that you put it in the hands of experienced and competent mechanics with knowledge at this level, in order to carry out preventive maintenance.
