Best Cordless Drill Under £50 UK –

We check out the best cordless drill under £50 UK. There are a lot of options available to you. After completing our research we found many different brands and models of drill/drivers that will suit your budget. It is worth pointing out, that you will not get a higher end branded model for this type of money.

That said, you will be able to get a drill that can handle almost any job you need to do in the home or garden. Cordless drills are more or less the same in that they use a battery for power. That battery operates a motor, which turns a chuck that holds the drill bit or screwdriver bit. This is what causes the actual drilling motion.

We also want to point out, that at the lower price points, aside from Black & Decker and Mylek most of the brands are pretty much unknown. All of the cordless drills under £50 that we have selected here cost between £25-£35. The downsides of buying a cheaper cordless drill, is that they are made by a variety of unknown brands. It is difficult to find contact numbers for these brands, so if you have any issues, it will be a problem to get in touch with them. It will also be hard to find parts such as batteries and chargers should they go faulty.

Understanding Cordless Drill Types

There is some information you should know about before buying any cordless drill as they come in a few types. At this under £50 price point, there are two types of cordless drill:

  1. Drill/driver – this works as a drill and as an electric screwdriver. (suitable for drilling and driving screws into wood, plastic and metal)
  2. Combi Drill –  this does both of the above, but also has a hammer action. Having that hammer action also allows you to drill into masonry such as brick and concrete.

Just be aware of those two types when buying a lower priced cordless drill. If you plan on using your cordless drill to drill walls etc, then you will need one with a hammer action or feature.

There are also rotary hammer and SDS cordless drills, but you won’t find those at lower price points. (They cost around £150-£200) You can find out more about all cordless drill types in our drill buying guide.

Best Deals on Budget Cordless Drills

There are always deals available on cordless drill/drivers. Stores like B&Q usually have some form of offer available and you can also pick up ones that maybe have a damaged box, or a handle missing at a reduced price. We would advise staying away from anything that is second hand or used, if you don’t know the actual owner. These could have been dropped or damaged and if that happens, then they would be a risky purchase. We have noticed that Amazon also have deals from different brands going on from time to time, but you do need to keep watching and checking.

There are plenty of good cordless drills available for less than £50. The research that we have completed above shows you what we believe to be 5 of the best models. In fairness, the brand names may not be that familiar, and for Bosch, Makita, Dewalt you simply have to be prepared to pay closer to £100. You can check out our top 10 cordless drills by clicking here.

What to expect in a cordless drill under £50?

Drills at this price point will come with some basic features:

  • Forward/Reverse – This is normally a button that you move from side to side. This feature is really only needed for screwdriving as it allows you to remove screws when reverse is selected.
  • Chuck – Almost all cordless drills in this price point will have a 10mm chuck. That means the chuck can handle all drill bits up to a 10mm diameter. For light drilling and driving that is enough. The more expensive drills will use a 13 mm chuck. That allows bigger drill bits to be used which you will need for heavy drilling.
  • Battery and Charger – The lower priced cordless drills come with a battery and charger. In most cases these are really basic. It’s best to use a comparison. For a better brand, you would pay around £100-£200 for a drill, battery and charger. The under £50 models all have smaller 1.5 Ah batteries, that don’t last that long, and take longer to charge. They are OK for occasional use though.
  • Accessories – Many of the lower end brands include accessories in their package to add value and make their offer more attractive. This usually includes a few drill and screwdriver bits, sockets etc. It is worth noting that these are typically very low quality and will not last that long.

Conclusion on cordless drills under £50?

There are plenty of options for a cordless drill under £50 in the UK. There are almost 100 different models available, but we narrowed those down to the top 10. Anyone who just needs to use a cordless drill from time to time can get by with a model at this price point.

Professionals, those working in the trade and serious DIY people are willing to pay more for a drill that is more powerful and built to last. They also need to be able to buy replacement batteries and chargers and have someone to contact. All that costs more money, but does ease frustration, and allows them to get on with their work.

For any homeowner, who only needs to use a drill from time to time, for lighter work, then a cordless drill under £50 will do the job nicely,
